"The Great Deserts surrounding the extruding god-limbs of Maya are reputedly home to many strange things; it is said that the crust there is thin, and so the thoughts passing from Maya's wondrous mind to her tendrils affect the sands that they pass under. I myself decided to venture into these wastes, and almost immediately I was greeted by a land where the air is constantly shimmering, and mirages dance around as quickly as desert winds. Come night-time, however, I was treated to a much more relaxed scene, one of darkened gold studded with the bright green shine of strange growths. At one point I even thought I saw a group of jimalin, the semi-mythical creatures native only to the Great Deserts, with purple caps festooned with stars, drifting as if almost weightless across the sand dunes."
